News from the Katherine Mansfield Society

Southern Trust backs the Mansfield blog

The Southern Trust has continued its support of the much-loved Katherine Mansfield blog with a second grant, ensuring the blog will continue to post daily extracts from Mansfield's letters and journals until 2013 - the 90th anniversary of her tragically early death - at http://www.katherinemansfieldsociety.org/today/

Sarah Sandley, Honorary Chair of the Katherine Mansfield Society, says the widely-followed blog is bringing Mansfield to life for new readers worldwide, who are inspired by:

"The courage that Mansfield showed at a time of great fear - exiled abroad by the TB which would eventually result in her death, facing life without her husband, and producing some of her finest writing. Every entry is a testimony to the beauty and struggle of daily life."

Blogging now, 90 years ago to the day, New Zealand's most-celebrated writer was living in Menton, France, seeking to ‘keep the coffin from the door’, coping with an absentee husband who was more like ‘a grown up son’, and writing poignantly of a Love ‘that’s so difficult to explain. It’s not pity or rainbows or anything up in the air. Perhaps its feeling FEELING FEELING.’

To celebrate the second year of the KM Today blog and the generous support of the Southern Trust, the Katherine Mansfield Society is offering a special membership rate for a limited period of ONLY $55 (usually $66).
