A reminder from IIML

Words and pictures at Te Papa

Tonight the IIML brings poetry and art together at Te Papa. Bill Manhire takes Brecht down a dark alley to meet Max Beckmann; Chris Price and Gertrude Stein paint a portrait of Picasso; James Brown wanders lonely as a cloud with Wordsworth and his sister; Greg O’Brien and Jenny Bornholdt have a date with the Dadaists… Te Papa’s European Masters exhibition will be illuminated by poetry that speaks to the artworks, read by three IIML staff members plus Victoria University Writer in Residence Jenny Bornholdt, and curator/poet/artist-about town-Gregory O’Brien.
The poems can be heard with wine or coffee in the Espresso Café on Level 4 from 6.30-7.15pm, and you can stay on and relax to the sounds of local jazz ensemble Primo4tet from 7.30pm.
Admission free, all welcome.

Workshop deadline

Since we’re in touch, we’ll take the chance to remind everyone that the deadline for our first trimester workshops falls next week, on Friday 10 December. For the short fiction writers among you there’s the chance to put a toe in the water with Kate Duignan’s Short Fiction workshop, or dive in the deep end by applying for the Advanced Short Fiction workshop with celebrated American novelist David Vann. Creative Non-Fiction has moved into the first trimester, and is on offer from anthologist, biographer, critic and brilliant all-rounder Harry Ricketts.
