The Michael King Writers’ Centre is calling for applications for an eight-week residency especially for a Maori writer at the Michael King Writers’ Centre in Devonport in 2011. Applications close on Friday this week.

The aim of the centre’s residency programme is to support writers and to promote New Zealand literature by providing an opportunity for authors to work full-time on a major project.

This eight-week residency is especially for an established or emerging Maori author. It will run from Thursday 12 May to Friday 8 July 2011, and a stipend of $8,000 will be offered. The successful writer will be able to use a bedroom at the Michael King Writers’ Centre and work in the writer’s studio.
Payment of the stipend will be by arrangement with the Michael King Writers’ Centre, and will usually be subject to tax.
