Former leading New Zealand publisher and bookseller, and widely experienced judge of both the Commonwealth Writers Prize and the Montana New Zealand Book Awards, talks about what he is currently reading, what impresses him and what doesn't, along with chat about the international English language book scene, and links to sites of interest to booklovers.
It's interesting in itself that libraries have found a way to 'lend' ebooks - I wonder how they've negotiated around all the DRM issues?
I've had a quick check of the Christchurch Library service (excellent by the way), and don't see any such facility yet (not for download to my Kindle anyway). They'd need to create some sort of time strap on the downloaded copy I imagine.
(The only bug-bear with my Kindle is it's sending me broke. A great pity my wife and I don't have the same taste in books, as that would halved the overall cost. Though Gutenberg is great for reading the older, out of copyright titles - http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page - so I'm catching up on some of the classics I should have read by now (currently Anna Karenina)).
