Just reported on GalleyCat
By Jason Boog, December 1, 2010
Last night eBookNewser linked to a Wall Street Journal report that Google Editions will launch by the end of the year. We’ve been waiting for this new eBookstore since the summer, but “technical and legal hurdles” have delayed the launch.
Here’s more from eBookNewser: “Google Editions is designed to have an open model in which readers can access content from various retailers, including independent bookstores, and read it within their Google account. Like eReader applications from other major eBook retailers including Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Apple’s iBookstore, the platform will work on computers, tablets and smartphones.”
While building our list of the Best Novels of 2010, this GalleyCat editor found many of the books on the list already have free samples in Google Books. It seems Google Editions is quietly being installed while the publishing world waits.
