Atlantic confirms date for Booker follow-up

The Bookseller - 06.12.10 - Graeme Neill

Atlantic Books has revealed that Aravind Adiga's follow-up to the Man Booker prize winning The White Tiger will be published in June next year. Ravi Mirchandani, editor in chief at the publisher, bought Last Man in Tower last year from David Godwin at DGA. The book will be released on 16th June 2011. It is about the residents of a Mumbai apartment block and how they react to the offers of a property developer who wishes to build luxury apartments on the land their homes stand.

Mirchandani said: "There is always a degree of nervousness as an editor waits to read the second novel by a first novelist who has been as successful as Aravind has. From the opening pages, Last Man in Tower dispelled such nerves. It is a hugely ambitious novel, with a large and wonderfully realised cast of characters, of whom perhaps the most significant is Bombay itself. And it entirely lives up to its ambitions, in plot, character and sense of place alike. We’re all hugely proud to be publishing the book in the UK."
