short fat chick in Paris

by Kerre Woodham with Gareth Brown

Two years ago, celebrity broadcaster and columnist Kerre Woodham was experiencing sleepless nights. The publication date of her first book, Short Fat Chick to Marathon Runner, was just a few weeks off and she was convinced that no one would be, in her words, ‘remotely interested in a book about a little fat woman who’d run a couple of marathons’.

But buy the book they did! After months on the bestseller lists, six reprints, author events and signings, letters and pleas for more help that needed answering, Kerre breathed a sigh of relief and looked forward to some normality. That is, she thought she might finally get back on track with her radio show, MC-ing and late nights, charity stuff and taking off around the country for her Books & Bubbles events. Just a glass of wine (or two) and an early night followed by an early-morning jog before her flight home … well, not quite.

Prompted by the letters from women all over the country, Kerre decided to continue her story in the hilarious new book Short Fat Chick in Paris. After the euphoria of the New York Marathon, Kerre set her sights on London, but somewhere along the way the training schedule is forgotten, the late nights begin to take their toll and the piss-fairies move in. When it seems things can’t get much worse … they do. During the London Marathon, Kerre despairs as a rhino and several plastic fruit overtake her.

Short Fat Chick in Paris is a devastatingly honest account of Kerre’s life in the public eye as she privately battles the flab and her love of a good drink. Laugh-out-loud funny and truly inspiring, it’s a story that many women will relate to. It contains more fabulous training tips from Gaz, Kerre’s personal trainer and mentor, plus more stories from people who have taken a leaf out of Kerre’s book and trained to run their own marathons against the odds. There is also a chapter on dealing with alcohol addiction, and some useful organisations that can help.

Kerre Woodham lives in Auckland, is a national radio personality, newspaper columnist and celebrity speaker.
Gareth (‘Gaz’) Brown is a trainer who also lives, and works in Auckland.
