NEW ZEALAND BOOK MONTH ASKS “ARE THESE YOUR FAVOURITE BOOKS?”

Earlier this month New Zealand Book Month launched its new website – http://www.nzbookmonth.co.nz/ – with a national vote to discover New Zealand’s favourite books.

The New Zealand Book Month team asked readers across the country to go online and vote for their five favourite books, and encouraged voters to share their story of the book that changed their life. Now, with over 2500 votes registered online, some of the emerging favourites include:

To Kill A Mockingbird – Harper Lee

The Book Thief – Markus Zusak

The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe – CS Lewis

The Time Traveller’s Wife – Audrey Niffenegger

The Kite Runner – Khaled Hosseini

Are these your favourites? To make sure your favourite books are counted, register your votes by Friday 5 November. Votes will then be collated into a series of reading recommendations for New Zealand Book Month in March 2011.

Nikki Crowther, Project Director, explains more: “We’d love to hear about the books that readers love – the ones that they recommend and share with friends and family. Our hope is that we will have some genuine and passionate recommendations that totally reflect the wide and rich variety of New Zealand’s reading pleasures.”

Voting is open to everyone in New Zealand, and New Zealand Book Month is offering a prize every day for voters – including new book releases, themed book packs worth over $100, and book vouchers to help with Christmas shopping – thanks to generous support from publishers and booksellers.
