Shaking 1960

Book Launched by author's daughter

Kate McGill, a professional actor and photographer of the front and back covers of 'Shaking 1960', reads an excerpt from her dad's book.

To her left, some of the 1960 memorabilia assembled for the launch, including a milkshake machine, a fuzzy felt game and a tin of Dr Scholl's foot powder loaned for the oaacion by Gill Ward, the inspiration for her son's movie 'Second Hand Wedding'.

The hardy booklovers laughing at something the author said. From the left, Galya Brockie, Murray Reece, Dr Bob Brockie, Mary Greig, Win and Barry (obscured) Jackson, Jack Shallcrass, Ken and Barbara.

Lower pic right - David McGill holds his primary research tool his 1960 diary like the bible it was as he launches his book 'Shaking 1960' at the 50 or so hardy souls who ignored the gale-force wind and rain warnings this Sunday and drove somehow around the driftwood strewn road to Eastbourne's marvellous Rona Gallery/Bookshop. Amazingly, 30 copies sold, God bless those folk who forswore electronic entertainment and a cosy fire for a book. The author/publisher now has one regret, his invitation suggested folk take the finest marine drive in the world to sunny Eastbourne. It virtually was a marine drive literally, and you couldn't see Wellington, let alone any sunshine.
