Malouf wins £10,000 Criticos prize

Australian author David Malouf has won the £10,000 Criticos Prize for his work Ransom.
Published by Chatto & Windus in the UK, Malouf received his award from author Colm Toibin at a ceremony in Athens last week. Chair of the Society of Authors, Tom Holland, was among the ten-strong panel of judges which also included historian Robin Lane Fox.
The prize, established in 1996 and funded by the Criticos-Foteinelli Foundation, is awarded to the author of an original work in English inspired by Greece or Hellenic culture.

The shortlist was also made up of Logicomix by Dixiades and Papadimitriou (Bloomsbury), Knossos and the Prophets of Modernism by Cathy Gere (Harvard), Cavafy: Collected Poems (trans Mendelsohn; published Knopf) and A Short Border Handbook by Gazmend Kapllani (Portobello).
