THE RIVER COTTAGE FAMILY COOKBOOK
Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall & Fizz Carr
Hodder - $55

Originally published as a hardback in 2005 this new edition is a bumper telephone directory size paperback. It won the Guild of Food Writers' Cookery Book of the Year Award in 2006.

Co-author Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall seems to be a ubiquitous presence on our TV screens these days in the various River Cottage programmes. and I must say for the most part I find him both interesting and entertaining.
In this book he teamed up with Fizz Carr (great name!) who is a Sussex farmer and passionate advocate of animal welfare.

This book is aimed at everyone from perhaps 12 years of age and up although 10 and 11 year olds could use it with a little adult help. Once you get past the fairly plain cover you will find the book profusely illustrated with appealing colour photographs.

I rather ran out of kitchen time this week but did manage to make myself the illustrated quick tomato salad for lunch today. It is pretty much the classic tomato salad requiring ripe medium size tomatoes, red onion, basil leaves, balsamic vinegar and salt & pepper. A delicious result this would be a good one to get my grandkids onto.

Excellent book for the family kitchen. And a great gift for those leaving home to go flatting.
