FORMER PROMINENT CHILDREN'S BOOKSELLER DIES IN CHRISTCHURCH
KATH CRABB, 1934 -2009

Kath Crabb, the vivacious former owner of The Children’s Bookshop died suddenly on 27 October 2009.

Having been a teacher and a mother, Kath entered the book trade some 20 years ago when she purchased The Children’s Bookshop in Colombo St in Christchurch.
She enjoyed running her “little shop” and became well respected in the library and school library communities. In 1997 Kath formed a partnership with Sheila Sinclair and together they purchased the Early Learning Shop in Victoria St, turning it into the “big” version of The Children’s Bookshop.
In 1999 the blossoming partnership purchased The Dorothy Butler Bookshop in Ponsonby and Kath made the brave move of selling her home and moving north to manage the Auckland Branch of The Children’s Bookshop. It was only when she retired in 2004 that Kath returned home to Christchurch and became a householder again.

A devoted and professional bookseller, Kath still found time for the important things in life. There was nothing she enjoyed more than an evening playing bridge, except of course, time spent with her family, particularly her grandchildren.
Kath was an amazing lady, always bright and healthy and with a wicked, dry sense of humour. She was loved and respected by family, friends and staff and will be sorely missed.

Mary Sangster.
