Village Books making high-tech changes for customers
Dave Gallagher - The Bellingham Herald

Village Books in Fairhaven, WA recently let its customers know through its Chuckanut Reader newsletter about a couple of services that should be ready in October.
One is the Espresso Book Machine, a print-on-demand tool that will allow customers access to out-of-print books, as well as self-publish their own books.
Village Books is also taking a big step forward in its audio and e-books department, signing an agreement with Symtio to sell cards that can be activated at the store so people can download books on their computer at home.
It's a risk to be investing in new technology when it isn't clear to the business owner what the end result will be, but co-owner Chuck Robinson believes it's something worth trying out.
"There are obviously changes rapidly taking place in our industry, and instead of standing on the sidelines and waiting to see what will happen, we've decided to jump right in," Robinson said.
