Puffin to launch in Ireland
01.09.09 The Bookseller
Puffin, the children’s imprint, is following its parent Penguin into Ireland, reports the Irish Times. The imprint will be headed up by Paddy O’Doherty. As editor of the new imprint she said she hoped to nurture new writing talent for children. O’Doherty, who worked with the organisation, Children’s Books Ireland (CBI), for many years, has a master’s degree in children’s literature.
Puffin Ireland is being established by Penguin Ireland whose managing director Michael McLoughlin said there was a wealth of talented children’s authors here. Penguin launched its stand-alone Irish business in 2002.
Next year is Puffin’s 70th birthday and Puffin Ireland will publish its first books as part of the anniversary celebrations.
