Writers pay tribute to FRANK

Some of New Zealand’s best known literary talent attended the special screening of the documentary FRANK at this year’s Auckland Writers and Readers Festival.

The documentary, celebrating the life of writer Frank Sargeson and produced by Mark Casey, was shown last Friday (15 May) at the Aotea Centre.

FRANK had its genesis in Casey’s short film This Magical Solitude, which features interviews with past winners of the Buddle Findlay Sargeson Fellowship (the Fellowship provides writers with a scholarship and free residency at the Sargeson Centre, located next to Auckland University).

FRANK features comments on the late Sargeson by fellow writers and friends, including Karl and Kay Stead, Kevin Ireland, Graeme Lay, Christine Cole Catley, Gordon McLauchlan, Nigel Cook and Sargeson’s former neighbours.
The special festival screening was accompanied by speeches and comments from Kevin Ireland and the current holder of the Buddle Findlay Sargeson Fellowship, Steve Braunias.
