Relatives battle over Larsson legacy
The Bookseller 19.05.09
Relatives of Stieg Larsson, the bestselling Swedish novelist, are locked in a bitter dispute over an inheritance worth millions and a laptop computer, reports the Times.

The laptop is reported to contain a 200-page manuscript of an unfinished sequel to the bestselling Millennium trilogy.
According to the Times, the laptop is in the possession of Eva Gabrielsson, a 54-year-old architectural historian, who lived with Larsson for 30 years until his death in 2004. But Gabrielsson has inherited none of the estimated £10m Larsson has earned since he died because they were not married.
Instead, Erland Larsson, his father, and Joakim Larsson, his brother, inherited the earnings, and also inherited half of her Stockholm flat. In 2005 they reportedly offered it to her in exchange for Larsson's laptop computer. But she declined the offer.
Speculation abounds that Larsson sketched out plots for another six stories on the laptop. Someone —perhaps even Gabrielsson, who helped to research the original books—might end up finishing them, says the Times. "My lawyer has been trying to get an agreement with them that would give me the literary rights, but they have never been in favour of that," Gabrielsson tells the newspaper.
Footnote:
What a sad tale, I'm with Eva. How out of date Sweden is with their property law if she misses out because "they were not married". Come on, 30 years together and she still doesn't inherit? Mind you , you have to wonder what was Stieg thinking about not having covered the situation with a well crafted will.
And for all those fans anxious to get hold of a copy of the final in the trilogy I'm told that THE GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNET'S NEST, will be strictly embargoed - no review copies will be send out prior to the 1 October international publication date. Can't wait !
