Metonymy 09 invite you to our exhibition at the Aotea Gallery on Level 4 of the Aotea Centre, running from Monday 11th May (exhibition opening event 6 - 8 pm) to Saturday 23rd May.

The exhibition is open to the public from 9 am - 5 pm weekdays and 10 am - 4 pm on weekends, and additionally whenever the Aotea Centre is open outside of these times.
A free Performance Event will take place at 8 pm, Friday 22nd May on Level 5 of the Aotea Centre.

Metonymy asks: Can artist-writer ‘blind dates’ spark off new creative directions?
Thirty-three artist-writer pairs were matched and given just one month to create a new collaborative work. In the spirit of collaboration, exploration and artistic and literary excellence, we present nineteen of the best works, selected by a panel of distinguished artists and writers.

The Panel this year consisted of Paula Green (poet), Dylan Horrocks (graphic novelist), Philip Patston (poet and performer) and Peter Gilderdale (graphic designer and teacher).
Panellist Paula Green said of Metonymy that "the most successful collaborations demonstrate the electric, surprising and sometimes challenging possibilities when artists and writers come together... perhaps there needs to be a new term to acknowledge works that are neither simply artwork or prose or poetry but something glorious and fertile that emerges from the movement between. "
