Hutchinson has bought the rights for a title on the life and death of the Duchess of Windsor, whose affair with Edward VII led to his abdication from the throne.
Hutchinson editorial director, Paul Sidey, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, but with exclusive Europe from Gillon Aitken at Aitken and Alexander.
Behind Closed Doors: The Life and Death of the Duchess of Windsor by Hugo Vickers will be published in hardback in September 2010.
It will be released in Arrow paperback the following year.
The title will look at the Duchess's final years and the internal feuding among the royals.Vickers said: "Like so many people I find the story of the Windsors perennially fascinating. No man ever gave up so much for one woman.
"The story of what happened to the Duchess in her last years has long needed to be told, and at last I can."

Hugo Vickers has previously published another royal biography with Hutchinson, Elizabeth: The Queen Mother.
