The days when WHSmith sold hardbacks with red and gold covers are gone. Dash into the shop at a railway station today and it's magazines, newspapers, bottles of water, giant Cadbury bars and sad-looking sandwiches. If you're lucky, you might find a few shelves of Fifty Shades Of Grey.I am resigned to WHSmith's decline. But must every High Street bookshop go the same way? They are becoming increasingly like an old Woolworths crossed with a toyshop.
