For the next month New Zealand readers will have the unique opportunity to help
decide which two books they'd most like to see published, thanks to the
NZSA/Kobo e-publishing prize. A shortlist of five fiction and five non-fiction
titles have been selected from over 130 manuscripts submitted. Now readers can
browse a sample chapter and a synopsis of each finalist and vote for their
favourites simply by visiting the NZSA website - www.authors.org.nz..
The winning titles in each
category will be professionally edited and designed before being published and marketed on the
Kobo Writing Life Platform. Each prize is valued at over $10,000. The writers
with the most votes will also win a Kobo Reader.
"Social Media have been buzzing since the shortlist was
announced," according to NZSA President, Kyle Mewburn. "The prize
offers all the finalists a chance to gain some much sought after publicity for
their titles. And for the two winners this will represent a significant boost
to their writing career."
“Kobo Writing
Life is all about removing barriers and providing authors with tools and
resources to help get their best work into the market,” says Mark Lefebvre,
Kobo’s Director of Self-Publishing & Author Relations. “Collaborating with
the New Zealand Society of Authors in this effort to recognize excellence in
writing is a great way to provide New Zealand writers a fantastic and unique
opportunity.”
Winners will be announced in November and
their titles launched in March 2014.
