From PANZ - Frankfurt News Update 15 October

NZ at Frankfurt Book Fair ’13: Auf Wiedersehen

Sarah Ropata reports

And so it is a wrap for another year – what a week! Full of friends, colleagues, conversations, business and fun.

I thought with only one author to worry about I wasn't going to know what to do with myself this year. But on reaching the end of the week with tired feet and a full brain, I am left wondering just how we did it last year with 64 writers and over 200 events!

Carl Nixon has done a fantastic job representing Aotearoa at Frankfurt Book Fair – he spoke eloquently to good audiences, signed lots of books and has had some great German reviews. Today he heads to Bonn, then Cologne, Berlin and Hamburg for readings before flying home on Thursday.

In Berlin he will be hosted by our Ambassador Peter Rider and in Hamburg by our Trade Commissioner, Marcus Scoliage. Carl’s German publishers Weidle Verlag are very happy with the response to this second novel in translation.

The New Zealand stand has been busy all week and I'm looking forward to hearing what deals get reported – our publishers all seemed very happy with their work so I have high hopes!

The legendary PANZ party was once again legendary and we were delighted to welcome Jan Bailey, the new Deputy Head of Mission from the NZ Embassy, who also kindly sponsored the very good NZ wine and beer. Lots of old friends also joined us and the night was loud and long.

The stand is now packed and heading to storage for another year, and we are all about to hop on planes for the long trip home.

So till next time, Auf Wiedersehen Frankfurt!
