25.01.13 | Charlotte Williams - The Bookseller
Canongate has acquired Margaret Drabble's first novel for six years. Executive editor Anya Serota bought UK/Commonwealth and translation rights in The Pure Gold Baby from Jim Gill at United Agents, and will publish in November.
The book follows several decades in the life of Anna, who starts out as a child of "special, unknowable qualities, who also presents profound parental challenges", observing the effect she has upon those around her, particularly her mother Jess.
Serota said: "The Pure Gold Baby is a novel of great beauty, wisdom and stealthy power. Across the team at Canongate, it bowled each and every one of us over."
