The New Zealand International
Arts Festival is pleased to announce the appointment of Kathryn Carmody to the
role of Writers & Readers Week Programme Manager for the 2014 Festival.
Many in the trade will know
Kathryn as a publicist and may also remember her from her time as a bookseller
with Capital Books and Unity Books Wellington. Most recently she has been
working with non-fiction and children’s book authors published by Craig Potton
Publishing and Te Papa Press, and on events with Creative New Zealand and the
Department of Internal Affairs. She is also heavily involved with the literary
journal New Zealand Books: A Quarterly Review, and has strong ties to
the Randell Cottage Writers Residency and the BNZ Literary Awards.
Kathryn has worked with the
Festival on three previous occasions as coordinator to two former Writers &
Readers Week programme managers, Anne Chamberlain and Laura Kroetsch. She will
be performing the role with guidance from Artistic Director Shelagh Magadza and
the Festival’s Literary Advisory Group.
Festival Executive Director Sue
Paterson said, “Kathryn’s experience of this event, added to her considerable
knowledge of writers, books and the publishing world made her an ideal
candidate for this position. We are thrilled to welcome Kathryn back to the
team.”
Kathryn’s first day in the role
is Monday 28 January 2013. The dates for the next New Zealand International
Arts Festival are 21 February – 16 March 2014.
