Edited by Lauraine Jacobs, author, food judge, president of the NZ Food Writers Guild and New Zealand food ambassador extraordinaire, A Treasury of New Zealand Baking is a treasure trove of cake, slice, loaf, scones, tart and muffin recipes from our best-loved food writers and chefs.
Published to help kick-off the annual Breast Cancer Action Month, the beautiful baking book has raised at least $35,000 in royalties for The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation and it has been reprinted four times since its launch.
“For generations, family and friends have gathered around the kitchen table to share the joys and heartache that life serves up,” says Nicola Legat, Random House’s very proud Publishing Director, who is also responsible for the Me’a Kai cookbook which scooped the ‘The Best in the World’ category.
“This is a book with a very big heart for so many reasons. Many comforting cups of tea and muffins are sure to have been consumed as women around the country have shared all their anxieties and fears as they struggle to come to terms with the heartbreaking and devastating news of a breast cancer diagnosis which will affect 1 in 9 New Zealand women in their lifetime.
“We simply couldn’t have published the book without the generosity from all of the contributors as they each gave their recipe at no cost. The warmth and love that infuses this book sets it apart. It was such a joy for all of us to be involved in the whole project and it’s a cookbook truly to be treasured,” says Legat.
