DAVID MCPHAIL SHARES HIS THOUGHTS ON THE BOOK THAT CHANGED HIS LIFE

DAVID MCPHAIL
Actor and writer

The Aleph and Other Stories 1933-1969 by Borges

My favourite fiction writer is Jorge Luis Borges followed closely by Haruki Murakami and Kurt Vonnegut. And yet, I delight in the essays and distinct opinions of Gore Vidal. Moby Dick was an important book for me (recently coupled with a remarkable book called Leviathan or, The Whale by Phillip Hoare). But, I suppose the book that startled, entranced me and still retains a hypnotic appeal is The Aleph and Other Stories 1933-1969 by Borges.
I remember thinking ‘I have never read anything like this before.’ I now own everything he wrote and continue to read him even though I know how the stories end.
