Sony unveils two new readers
02.09.10 - Victoria Gallagher - The Bookseller

Sony has unveiled two new Sony e-readers, the pocket and touch editions, which are available for pre-order now but will be released on Friday 17th September.
There had previously been speculation about Sony readying two new devices for launch and last month Waterstone's slashed the price of its Sony Pocket Reader to £99.99.

The new pocket edition of the Sony e-reader will be sold at Waterstone's for £159.99. It has a touch screen and is both Mac and PC compatible with 12 built-in dictionaries. It is smaller than the previous model, however it can now hold up to 1,200 books compared to 350 on the earlier version.

The touch edition will be sold for £199.99, is "slim" and "light" with a six-inch screen. It can also hold up to 1,200 books and has a battery life of two weeks.
Advertising on Waterstone's website claims the new devices are "Smaller. Thinner. Faster. Better."
Customers who pre-order one of the new editions from the retailer between 1st September and 11.59pm 16th September will receive a £10 gift card, which is redeemable against e-book purchases on Waterstones.com.

Sony unveils revamped e-readers

It's a curious consumer proposition. But Sony believes lots of potential e-reader buyers love touch-screens, are somewhat indifferent to wireless connectivity -- and don't mind paying more than they would for the market leader: Amazon's Kindle.
