Penguin US launches online network
17.06.09 The Bookseller

Penguin US has launched an online network which it is calling 'From the Publisher’s Office'. The initiative is aimed at giving more exposure to books and authors overlooked by mainstream media. The US trade magazine Publishers Weekly reports that the network will have three channels--one each for video, audio and reading. The Publishers Office sits on the Penguin homepage and went live Tuesday afternoon.

An introductory note on the website reads: "From the Publisher's Office makes it easy to learn more about your favorite authors—and to discover a few new favorites in the process. We hope you'll watch, listen to, and read the programs found on these pages."

All episodes are 30-minutes, divided into smaller segments, PW notes. "We didn’t want to do three- second sound bites," Penguin president Susan Petersen Kennedy said. "We have a lot of information that we want to get out."
