We are delighted to welcome to the Centre these two celebrated poets.
Fleur Adcock's books include The Eye of the Hurricane (1964), High Tide in the Garden (1971), The Scenic Route (1974), The Inner Harbour (1979), Below Loughrigg (1979), Meeting the Comet (1988), Time-Zones (1991), and Looking Back (1997). She was awarded the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry in 2006, and named a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2008.

Cilla McQueen's books include Homing In (1982; winner of the New Zealand Book Award for Poetry in 1983), Anti Gravity (1984), Wild Sweets (1986), Benzina (1988; winner of the New Zealand Book Award for Poetry in 1989), Berlin Diary (1990; winner of the New Zealand Book Award for Poetry in 1991), Markings (2000), Soundings (2002), and Fire-Penny (2005),

Tusiata Avia

We are delighted that Tusiata Avia will be joining us for an event where she will perform, read from and discuss her poetry.
Tusiata Avia is a New Zealand-Samoan poet, performer, writer and world traveler. Her first book of poetry Wild Dogs Under My Skirt was published in 2004 and was short-listed for the 2006 Prize in Modern Letters. Her new book of poetry, Bloodclot, has just been published.
As well as being a poet for the page, Tusiata is well known at home and internationally as a performance poet, she has appeared at a number of international literary festivals and her acclaimed one-woman show (also called Wild Dogs Under My Skirt) has toured since 2002 in New Zealand, Austria, Germany, Hawai’i, Australia and Russia.
Tusiata has held residencies as the 2005 Fulbright-Creative New Zealand Pacific Writer in Residence at the University of Hawai’i and the 2005 Macmillan Brown Pacific Artist in Residence, University of Canterbury. In 2006 she was the recipient of the Best Emerging Artist Award, Pasifika Arts Awards.
