While President Obama works on a stimulus package to jump start the American economy, his January 20 inauguration gave a boost to Obama-related books—particularly his own.
The president's Dreams of My Father reigned; it was the top-selling Obama book in January, and its sales more than doubled during the week of the inauguration: 48,000 copies in the stores that report to Nielsen BookScan, compared to 20,000 copies in the week ended January 18.
Audacity of Hope sold 29,000 copies during the inauguration week, up from 14,000 copies. Of the 10 books tracked, eight enjoyed spikes in the week; the only two that didn't get a boost were the two slowest-selling titles—Obama's Challenge and The Rise of Barack Obama, which each sold fewer than 1,000 copies in both weeks.
