Taim Bilong Melanesia Exhibition on now – in Wellington
This is a rare exhibition of some 60 Melanesian contemporary visual art works from Papua New Guinea, Fiji, New Caledonia and the Solomon Islands that was part of the recent Tok Talanoa Symposium held in Wellington.
While the symposium got over 150 people talking about improving connections between NZ and these other Pacific neighbours, it is the art that provides an enduring link for those who are interested in cutting edge works that are new to this part of the world.

Described by former Wellington lawyer Fuimaono - a collector of Pacific art for 20 years - ‘as rich, immersed in the land, with a totally different way of thinking…and frightening until you learn what the art is about’….
Ted Dowling, Art Critic introduced the work as the opening as ‘being beyond categorization and of very high quality – and well priced.’
This first ever exhibition in New Zealand of Melanesian contemporary art is sponsored by the Papua New Guinea High Commission and the Pacific Cooperation Foundation. All the works are for sale.
You are invited you to come and see for yourself. @ Websters Gallery, 3 Cruikshank St Kilbirnie, Wellington. NZ until 11 October.
