BolognaRagazzi Award and BolognaRagazzi Digital Award 2018: winners and special mentions
We are delighted to present you the prizewinners of the BolognaRagazzi Award 2018: 6 winners and 14 mentions, selected among the 1,417 candidate books gathering from 41 different countries and regions. The International Jury selected the winners for graphic quality, artistic and technical excellence giving priority to innovation and the ability to communicate with young readers. For the BolognaRagazzi Digital Award, the Jury looked at 116 entries from 21 countries and chose 5 winners, 5 special mentions and a shortlist of 7 selected works, all rewarded for bringing to light the potential embedded in emerging technologies and their place in the lives of children and young people.

 


 

The New York Times chooses Bologna to celebrate the 65th anniversary of
The New York Times Best Illustrated Children’s Books Of The Year”
High expectations for this important event – organized in partnership by BCBF and the New York Times – on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of its celebrated selection of illustrated children’s books. The conference will be held on Tuesday 27th March, from 2.30pm to 5.30pm, and it will be accompanied by a publication looking at the key moments over the past 65 years. The international panel will include Leonard Marcus, Maria Russo, Steven Guarnaccia, Deirdre McDermott, Anne Schwartz, Neal Porter, Patricia Aldana, Béatrice Vincent, Beatrice Alemagna, Suzy Lee, Laura Carlin, Paul O. Zelinsky, Sydney Smith.

 


 

LISTEN UP!
Audiobooks, statistics, new markets,
the potential and opportunities for publishers
The international market for audiobooks has grown significantly in the last year and it is in continuous expansion. For this 2018 edition the BCBF, with the collaboration of Bookrepublic, has reserved a special chapter for the discussion of this topic. The conference will be held on Monday 26th March from 2.00pm to 5.00pm, in the Digital Conference Room and will feature the presence of international speakers representing some of the leading players of the sector: Marco Ferrario, Michele Cobb, Ed Nawotka, Amanda D’Acierno, Mary Ann Naples, Alessandro Campi Paule du Bouchet, Yanping Jiang, Helena Gustafsson e Marco Azzani.

 


 

The 1st European Independent Children’s Bookstore Conference
Organized by BCBF, in collaboration with ALIR - the Association of Italian Independent Children’s Bookstores, the conference will be a place for an exchange aimed at highlight the diverse cultural and economic aspects that characterise the work of independent bookstores, a reality that has been increasing significantly in recent years. The event will take place on Thursday 29th March, from 9.30 a.m. to 1 p.m and the international panel of speakers will include Julia Eccleshare, Nathalie Beau, Paula Jarrín, Mariela Nagle and the representatives of some quality independent bookstores from Portugal, Great Britain, Poland, Germany and Belgium, that have been invited to share their experiences. Accompanying this first European Conference, on Wednesday 28th March, from 6.30pm to 8.00pm, will be an opening meeting at the San Giorgio in Poggiale Library in Bologna, a truly special place for booklovers.

 


 

“Children’s Books on Art, Architecture
& Design” International Conference
The special category of the BolognaRagazzi Award 2018, Art - Architecture & Design, will provide an opportunity to discuss children’s books about art and architecture and will involve some of the leading experts in this field. The round table, coordinated by Charles Kim (USA), will take place on Tuesday 27th March from 10.00am to 1.00pm, and will bring together leading figures from publishing and illustration: Allyn Johnston (USA), Page Tsou (Taiwan), Didier Cornille (France), Steven Guarnaccia (USA), Fanny Millard (France) and Silvana Sola (Italy).

 


 

BOP – Bologna Prize for the Best Children’s Publishers of the Year: Shortlist announced!
The shortlist for the 2018 BOP – Bologna Prize for the Best Children’s Publishers of the Year has been released. Over the last months, BCBF Exhibitors, Publishers Associations and book institutions throughout the world have nominated the publishers who have most distinguished themselves for their creative and publishing excellence over the last year. On the basis of these nominations, all Exhibitors are invited to support their candidates on the reserved area of the website and vote until March 8th 2018.
