Global Kids Connect Breakfast Series: “Sounds Like Opportunity: The New World of Audio”
The first Global Kids Connect Breakfast event was held with great success in New York on January 25th - part of a series of meetings organized by the Bologna Children's Book Fair and Publishers Weekly. At the breakfast many emerging issues on children and young adult publishing were discussed. The event was dedicated to the world of audio books and highlighted the dynamics that characterize this expanding sector, with presentations by leading experts in the field.

The Juries of the BolognaRagazzi Award 2018
The BRAW-BolognaRagazzi Award selections will be held on February 9th and 10th in Bologna. This year, the international jury will be composed of: Noma Bar (Israel), Francesco Franchi (Italy), Jannick Mulvad (Denmark), Philippe-Jean Catinchi (France) and Mariela Nagle (Germany). For the special category of this year's edition, the BRAW-Art, Architecture & Design, the international jury will be joined by a special jury of experts in the field consisting of: Massimo Iosa Ghini, Angela Vettese, Luca Boscardin, Veronica Ceruti and Silvana Sola.

Dust or Magic Bologna Masterclass: AR, Picture Books, and Digital Audio
Dust or Magic Bologna Masterclass has now all of its keynote speakers announced. A kick-off event for the fair on Sunday 25th of March, our set of keynote speakers are Luca Prasso from Google Play, Japhet Asher Carlton books, Amanda D’Acierno Penguin Random House Audio, Barry O’Neill from Storytoys and Sebastien Wehner from Wonderz. Audio, AR and media services for publishers are the main themes for this year’s edition.

Save the Date!

The BCBF 2018 event programme is packed as every year with something for everyone present at the fair. Among the many initiatives here are some highlights:
  • The first conference of independent European children's bookshops: organised by BCBF, in collaboration with ALIR - the Association of Italian Independent Children’s Bookstores, the conference will be a place for an exchange aimed at sharing the challenges and good practices that characterize the work of independent booksellers today. The event will take place on Thursday 29 March, from 9.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. We will soon publish the programme and application form to attend.
  • The conference "Children's Books on Art, Architecture & Design": organized in conjunction with the BolognaRagazzi Award 2018 special category, will be held on Tuesday 27th March, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meeting, coordinated by Charles Kim (USA), will bring together leading figures from publishing and illustration such as Allyn Johnston (USA), Page Tsou (Taiwan), Didier Cornille (France) and Steven Guarnaccia (USA).
  • “Celebrating the 65th Anniversary of THE NEW YORK TIMES BEST ILLUSTRATED CHILDREN' S BOOKS OF THE YEAR”: the initiative will be organized in collaboration with the New York Times. Leonard Marcus, one of the most important scholars of children's literature, will open the event with an introductory speech on illustrated children’s books. Two round table discussions will follow: one dedicated to Editors and Art Directors, moderated by Steven Guarnaccia, and the other to illustrators, coordinated by Maria Russo, Children's Books Editor of the New York Times, with the presence of numerous international personalities such as Beatrice Alemagna, Suzy Lee, Laura Carlin, Paul Zelinsky, Sydney Smith. The event will take place on Tuesday 27th March from 2:30 to 5.30 p.m.
