Catalonia and The Balearic Islands: 2017 guest of honour programme
Exhibitions, meetings, authors, illustrators: what amounts to a “peaceful invasion” of both fair and city to raise awareness of the wealth of children’s culture generated by a land famous the world over for authors and illustrators of outstanding flair. The Services Centre hosts the excellently designed exhibition curated by bookseller Paula Jarrin and dedicated to Catalonia’s most talented 40 illustrators under 40. Children's Books on Art
Led by New York Times journalist Maria Russo, illustrators, publishers and international experts will meet in Bologna to discuss the focal topic of BCBF 2017: children's books on art. From the publishing experience of New York’s MOMA to Klaas Verplanke’s book on Magritte: the meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 4th April from 10-12.30 am in Sala Notturno, opening with an interview with Isabelle Arsenault, winner of the special category of the BolognaRagazzi Award 2017, Children's Books on Art. Writing on children's books and reading
A growing number of essays tackle children's books and reading. They all shed more light on the topic from the history of children’s publishing to gender studies and an ever-increasing awareness of the importance of reading in children’s development. A round table of international experts from the United States, Russia, Spain, Brazil and Italy will be coordinated by the Guardian’s children's book editor, Julia Eccleshare for a discussion scheduled for Tuesday 4th April from 2.30 to 5 pm in Sala Notturno. More than 300 events at BCBF 2017
Meetings, Workshops, Masterclasses 
Yet again, the events programme for this year’s edition is brimming with offerings for every professional category present at the Fair. Four days of not-to-be-missed events, from the launch of Italian TV RAI’s new cultural programme dedicated to reading to a meeting with Italian comics artist Lorenzo Mattotti, a meeting on promoting reading to spread a culture of legality a responsible citizenship, and a meeting with Oliver Jeffers and Sam Winston...
