Discover an enchanting underwater world hidden beneath the waves by losing yourself on an artistic, imaginative journey…

In Lost Ocean, the undisputed queen of the colouring book, Johanna Basford, invites you to lose yourself in a whirlpool of ink, let your creativity flow and de-stress in the loveliest way. Through intricate pen and ink illustrations to colour and embellish, readers will meet shoals of exotic fish, delicately drawn seahorses, curious octopi, gleaming pirate treasure, beautiful shells and vibrant coral reefs.
Secret Garden was released in Spring 2013, and since then has sold over 1.4 million copies (as reported by the New York Times) and been translated into 28 languages. The follow-up, Enchanted Forest, which was published earlier this year, is on a similar sales path. Fans of both books will love Lost Ocean and it’s sure to attract a whole new fan base with its gorgeous marine-themed magic.

Lost Ocean – a brief background:
Johanna’s parents are both marine biologists, meaning lots of childhood weekends were spent on research vessels and visiting scientific aquariums. She met her husband when he worked as a fisherman on a North Atlantic trawler. He would  be away for months on end, catching herring and mackerel. It was during this time Johanna developed her love for Radio 4, the shipping forecast in particular. As a child, Johanna loved exploring rock pools and discovering what creatures and curiosities they were home to.

These days she’s taken this sense of curiosity beneath the waves and enjoys snorkelling and scuba diving when temperature and tide permits.

Johanna Basford (right) is an illustrator and ink evangelist who prefers pens and pencils over pixels. Her intricate, hand- drawn illustrations are adored all over the world. Her first two colouring books, Secret Garden and Enchanted Forest, have sold millions worldwide. When she isn’t creating inky wonderlands in her studio, Johanna loves taking her dog for a walk at the beach or pottering about in the garden - all her work is nature inspired so these little adventures provide lots of ideas. A graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee, Johanna lives in rural Aberdeenshire with her husband, daughter and crazy Labrador.
