Among six books shortlisted tonight for the £5,000 Stanford Dolman prize for travel writing is one by Philip Marsden, who was shortlisted earlier this year for the new Thwaites Wainwright Prize for books about Britain. In Rising Ground: A Search for the Spirit of Place (Granta), he tells how his move to a remote farmhouse in Cornwall prompted a journey through the myth-laden South-West.
