Best of Auckland ! The Bookman is impressed
The December issue of Metro arrived in my box yesterday and I spent an enjoyable few hours reading it from cover to cover.
And what great pleasure it gave me. From Simon Wilson's thoughtful editorial on the farce in Federal Street, to Paula Green's Te Henga poem , the naming of the Jafa of the Year, Patrick Reynolds' essay on Auckland transport, Anthony Byrt's eloquent piece on Parekowhai on Queens Wharf , the usual excellent book reviews including a specially commissioned art work featuring Martin Amis, Richard Ford and Ian McEwan, and of course the annual detailed and entertaining look at Auckland The Best of .
Above - I love this photo by Alastair Guthrie of chefs extraordinaire Al Brown, Megan May and Simon Wright who have all had superb cookbooks published in the last two months and who feature in the Best Food section of the magazine.
And what about this - specially commissioned art work (Illustrator - Lauren Marriott) featuring Martin Amis, Richard Ford and Ian McEwan which accompanies the reviews of their latest fiction titles.
My warmest congratulations to Editor Simon Wilson and his talented team, and to the publishers, for an outstanding issue of Metro, there should be a copy in every Auckland home. Bravo !
