Words Chosen Carefully: Going West Festival 2010
An exhibition of images celebrating the Going West Literary Festival and the book Words Chosen Carefully.

Words Chosen Carefully brings together some of New Zealand's finest literary practitioners: 15 writers and 15 literary critics - in discussions about each author's oeuvre, the nature of writing and the place of land, culture, belonging, society, family and art in their work. With photographs by Liz March and an introduction by its editor, Siobhan Harvey, Words Chosen Carefully is the first book of its kind published in New Zealand in nearly two decades.

Writers and critics include: Kate de Goldi and Kim Hill; Jenny Bornholdt and Harry Ricketts; Lloyd Jones and Finlay Macdonald; Damien Wilkins and Lynn Freeman; Fiona Farrell and Iain Sharp; Peter Wells and Siobhan Harvey; Paula Morris and Alice Te Punga Somerville; Elizabeth Knox and David Larsen; Charlotte Grimshaw and Nicholas Reid; James George and David Eggleton; Kapka Kassabova and Louise O'Brien; Elizabeth Smither and David Hill; C. K. Stead and Lawrence Jones; Owen Marshall and John McCrystal; and Witi Ihimaera and Selina Tusitala Marsh.

For the exhibition, photographer Liz March presents a selection of her portraits from the book coupled with an intriguing array of vignettes captured in the writers' studies.

Words Chosen Carefully will be launched at 6.00pm on Saturday 11 September at Going West Books and Writers weekend, Titirangi War Memorial Hall.
