To Celebrate Courage Day the New Zealand Society of Authors Presents the 90 minute documentary:-

AN INDEPENDENT MIND
A film by REX BLOOMSTEIN

Date:Saturday 15th November at 7.30 pm
Venue: University of Otago Centre,
Westpac Stadium, Waterloo Quay, Wellington, NZ. Entry: Free

A journalist does his job and - luckier than some who are now often murdered - goes to jail. They may vanish behind bars but they are not forgotten.

AN INDEPENDENT MIND features eight characters from around the world attempting to exercise their right to freely express themselves.

Their stories focus not just on the developing world but also on Western democracies, in an attempt to encourage people to reflect on the importance of freedom of expression with all its attendant complexities, challenges and limits.

The free screenings will be followed by a question and answers session – hopefully generating some interesting debate.

November 15 is the International Day of the Imprisoned Writer.
By screening An Independent Mind (the international writers' organisation which champions freedom of expression) the New Zealand Society of Authors (incorporating PEN) will commemorate imprisoned writers.
