HIGH COUNTRY LARK – An Invitation to Paradise
Neville Peat - Longacre Press - $44.99

Last week Longacre Press celebrated the release of Neville Peat’s superb new book High Country Lark in Glenorchy, the heart of the South Island high country. It was a spectacular Glenorchy evening – a light dusting of snow on the tops, the lake a sheet of glass and the evening sun shining through the window of the local hall.

The event was well-attended by local identities and runholders, many of whom appear in the book. Longacre staff commented that it was surprising to them to meet a group of high country farmers who are voting Green, and going organic, or both.
The book was launched by Iris Scott, local veterinarian and longtime runholder, in true southern style.
One has to admire Neville Peat. He has dozens of books to his credit and seems indefatigable in his promotion of and concern for New Zealand's wild and remote environment and for our unique fauna and flora.
His writing style in immensely readable, his photographs stunning, and this handsome, beautifully designed volume will make an ideal gift for those who love the South Island high country whether they be locals or visitors.
