WRITER DROPS PEN
SENTENCED BY THE WRITERS’ BLOC

These two headlines both caught my eye on this glorious fine Friday here in Auckland.
The first in John Drinnan’s always interesting weekly Media column in the Business Herald and the second in the June issue of Auckland city magazine METRO.

They are in fact both on the same subject but by different writers taking different angles. The subject is about the falling out between Gordon McLauchlan (NZ Herald pic above) and the New Zealand Society of Authors which I covered here on this blog in February which lead to a record number of weekly NZ visitors to my site and drew forth over 20 responses.

The four page METRO story is a full account of McLauchlan’s side of the argument, while the shorter Business Herald piece refers to Hamish Keith’s resultant resignation from the NZ Society of Authors and quotes both Herald columnist Brian Rudman and McLauchlan.

Both are worth reading. And METRO has provided a forum for comments on its Metrolive website. Or you can add a comment here if you wish.
