Wellington and Auckland have been declared the best coffee towns in Oceania alongside Melbourne in Lonely Planet’s Global Coffee Tour, published this May.
International travel
authority Lonely Planet has worked with a worldwide network of
coffee-loving travel writers (and well-travelled coffee journalists) to select
the world’s best cafes, roasteries and plantations that caffeine-addicted
travellers can visit in more than 30 countries across Africa, the Americas,
Asia, Europe, and Oceania.
In Oceania, Lonely
Planet’s Global Coffee Tour says Wellington, Auckland and
Melbourne are the region’s “Top 3 Coffee Towns”.
Wellington: “Windy Welly may be a
long way to go for some but the quality of the coffee here is unsurpassed. One
of the disputed homes of the flat white, Wellington is rightly proud of
its perfectionist baristas and quirky coffee shops found on every street
corner. Clear your caffeine buzz with a stroll on the waterfront or up to Mt
Victoria.” Coffee spots reviewed in the book are Customs by Coffee Supreme,
Flight Coffee Hangar and Havana Coffee Works.
Auckland: “Thanks to Auckland-based
roasters such as Allpress and Atomic (and their knowledge-sharing ways) it’s
now hard to find a bad cup of coffee in New Zealand. Pop in for some barista
training, or there are plenty of other spots to enjoy NZ roasts. When you’ve
had your fill, hop on a ferry to Waiheke Island for beaches and wineries.”
Also reviewed in the book
are Patea’s Devil’s Cup and C1 Espresso and Hummingbird Coffee in
Christchurch.
To celebrate the launch of Lonely Planet’s Global Coffee Tour,
we’ve teamed up with JOCO, the original glass reusable cup, to create 100 limited
edition stylish, eco-friendly coffee cups. Available for free to the first
100 people to buy the book on lonelyplanet.com/shop
from 7th June 2018.
How
to use Lonely Planet’s Global Coffee Tour
Within each of the 37
countries in the book, Lonely Planet has organised the best coffee shops
and roasteries to visit by city, or in the case of plantations, by region. In
each entry authors have suggested the coffee you should taste or buy while
there, and also recommend local sights and things to do so ‘coffee tourers’ can
explore the local area, as well as the coffee.
