Writing New Zealand: People, Politics, Place

Aotearoa has long inspired powerful writing in all genres. From world-class, award-winning fiction, to ground-breaking historical analysis and urgent present-day contextualisation - the words inspired by the land continue to shape and inform our nation. The annual MKWC residential workshop is an important opportunity for active New Zealand writers. Designed especially for experienced writers to hone their craft, it is a high-level, intensive symposium style seminar featuring some of the best talent in the country.  In our eighth residential workshop delegates will be exposed to a range of New Zealand’s finest writers, all of whom have grounded their work in the unique local setting. Each will contribute to the various discussions on why New Zealand-inspired content matters. Highlights will include: Paula Morris, leading novelist and founder of the Academy of New Zealand Literature, on the diversity of New Zealand writing Investigative journalist Nicky Hager on navigating crucial political territory Internationally renowned journalist and commentator Toby Manhire on capturing the now Leading Pacifica poets Albert Wendt and Selina Tusitala Marsh on where they draw their inspiration Effective research tips and techniques with Paul Moon Robust and informed panel discussions (fiction and non-fiction) including contributions from Atholl Anderson (Tangata Whenua); Tessa Duder; Joanne Drayton and David Veart and novelists Fiona Sussman, Graham Lay and Greg McGee Award-winning memoir with Jill Trevelyan Outstanding New Zealand publisher, Bridget Williams on a lifetime of publishing our finest non-fiction Vaughan Park Retreat Centre Albert Wendt Fiona Farrell When: Registration from 9.30 am on Saturday 22 October 2016.
