The second FT/Oppenheimer Emerging Voices
Awards, for which submissions are now being accepted.. This year the Fiction Award is
open to writers from the Asia Pacific region, and information follows about the prize for any authors (and their publishers) who
might be eligible.
The awards, established in 2015, aim to
recognise extraordinary artistic talent in three categories – fiction
literature, film-making and art across more than 100 emerging market nations,
with a prize of $40,000 for the winner of each category. Shortlisted
runners up will receive $5,000.
The
longlist for each category will be announced in June 2016. Shortlisted entrants
will be announced in August 2016. All shortlisted participants will be flown to
New York for an awards gala on September 26, 2016, at the New York Public
Library where the winners will be announced.
Winner of
the fiction category in the inaugural FT/OppenheimerFunds Emerging Voices
Awards in 2015 was Chigozie Obioma from Nigeria, for The Fishermen,
Pushkin Press.

The FT/Oppenheimer Emerging Voices Awards, established in 2015, aim to
recognise extraordinary artistic talent in three categories – fiction
literature, film-making and art – across more than 100 emerging market nations,
with a prize of $40,000 for the winner of each category. Two runners up
in each category will receive $5,000.
Open to nationals or passport holders of these
emerging market countries, panels of distinguished judges will give awards to
the best creators of published fiction in English or English translation in
Asia-Pacific, the top film-makers in Latin America or the Caribbean and the
most distinguished artists in a variety of media in Africa.
Asia-Pacific: Works of fiction published in English or English translation between 1st January 2015 and 23rd September 2016, in print or digital form, or both, from these eligible countries: Afghanistan, American Samoa, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, Fiji, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kiribati, Korea, Dem. Rep., Kyrgyz Republic, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Fed. Sts., Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Tuvalu, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, Vietnam.
Latin America and the Caribbean: Films in any language with English subtitles.
