From Sheila:
This is to advise you that after twenty seven years at The Children’s Bookshop, seventeen and a half of them as owner, I have decided to retire. I am delighted to announce that Mary Sangster, a valued long-term member of the staff, Office Manager and Chair of Booksellers New Zealand, is of 1 April the new owner of bookshop. I know that Mary will continue with business as usual and maintain the standards that both our customers and suppliers have come to expect.

I will remain in the business in the short term, managing
the Dorothy Butler Children’s Bookshop in Auckland and doing the buying for it
as usual as well as helping as cover in the Christchurch shop. Until Auckland
is sold, Christchurch will continue doing the administrative work, so the
current delivery and accounts addresses remain the same.
This was a difficult decision to make but all good things
must end. I have had a wonderful opportunity to work in an industry that
I love and to work with knowledgeable, loyal and dedicated staff, meet other
booksellers, publishers, authors and illustrators and most of all loyal
customers.
From Mary:
I would like to thank Sheila for her guardianship of the shop; she has been a great boss, managing in times of both prosperity and hardship. As she says, the business will continue as usual, although the registered name is now The Original Children’s Bookshop Ltd. I realise that this will probably mean that new Terms of Trade will have to be completed, if so please email the appropriate forms to me at mary@childrensbookshop.co.nz. I trust that our relationship will continue to grow and the new company will enjoy the same level of service as the old. The official settlement was on April 1 and any personal guarantee that has been signed by Sheila is now void.

As yet, we have not told any of the reps, but will start
doing so in the next round of sales visits. Please supply any orders that
are currently in your system. I will be reviewing our backorders, but
will contact your customer services for backorder reports in due course.
