Tony Harrison: the controversial poet accepts award for his entire body of work
Tony Harrison, the poet and playwright behind the controversial 1985 poem v., is the winner of this year’s £40,000 David Cohen Prize for Literature. He was presented with the award by the chair of judges Mark Lawson at the British Library this evening.
Harrison, 77, wrote his first poems 70 years ago, and has since written a number of films and plays. V., which describes the offensive language graffitied on Harrison's parents’ grave, contains 25 uses of the word "f***" and 17 uses of the word "c***".
