Two books from Granta have made the shortlist for the Royal Society of Literature Ondaatje Prize 2014, which rewards books which evoke a sense of place.
Patrick Barkham's Badgerlands and Esther Woolfson's Field Notes From a Hidden City take two spots on the shortlist, alongside Nadeem Aslam's The Blind Man's Garden (Faber), Mark Dapin's Spirit House (Tuskar Rock Press), Tim Dee's Four Fields (Jonathan Cape), and Alan Johnson's This Boy (Bantam Press).
The £10,000 prize is awarded annually, and can recognise works of fiction, non-fiction and poetry.
A statement from the judges, Imitiaz Dharker, AL Kennedy and Jenny Uglow said: "The shortlist brings together six remarkable books, filled with a sense of place, a belief in well-crafted language and a genuine passion for human experience and knowledge, set in the context of the wider world."
The winner will be announced on 19th May.
