The £10,000 Royal Society of Literature Ondaatje Prize is awarded annually to a book of the highest
literary merit – fiction, non-fiction, poetry – evoking the spirit of a place.
The 2012 judges, Nick Laird, Michèle Roberts and Kamila Shamsie, will select a
winner from the following shortlist:
Rahul Bhattacharya The Sly
Company of People Who Care (Picador)
Julia Blackburn Thin Paths (Cape)
Teju Cole Open City (Faber)
Paul Farley and Michael Symmons Roberts Edgelands (Cape)
Olivia Laing To the River (Canongate)
Tim Robinson Connemara (Penguin Ireland)
The winner will be announced at a celebratory dinner at The Travellers Club in London on Monday 28 May 2012.
