The Good Word Debate 2011 goes to air on TVNZ7 and Sky 77 on Saturday, March 12 at 7.05pm.
The Debate was filmed at St. Matthew-in-the-City in Auckland on Thursday, 3 March as part of the launch of NZ Book Month.
The well-read crowd mixed and mingled at St Matthew-in-the-City before taking up a pew in eager anticipation.
Comedian Te Radar (left) hosted the debate, which included the likes of writers, CK Stead, Neil Cross, Steve Braunias and Charlotte Grimshaw.
Novelist Emily Perkins and journalist Finlay Macdonald as team leaders joined the argument, ensuring everything remained seemly. While the teams debated “New Zealand Books Deserve Special Treatment” they no doubt entertained and stimulated the audience, which included Marcus Lush, Carol Hirshfeld and Stephen Fleming.
All in all the learned entourage enjoyed their academic night on the town.
Developed as a spin-off from the popular TVNZ 7 books series The Good Word, the Debate is now in its third year, this time playing a key role in the launch of NZ Book Month, which is moving to March for the first time.
