iBookstore for Canada, SuperKindle Flies Higher, and More

Canada's iBookstore went live with paid books yesterday according to users (or today according to other official announcements). This morning Hachette Book Group, Harper Canada and Simon & Schuster Canada each announced that they are among publishers now selling through the store.

Today Amazon announced they are taking pre-orders for a new version of the SuperKindle, shipping as of July 7. The new model is priced at $379 (compared to $479 for the original model), and is said to have "an all new, high contrast electronic ink display with 50 percent better contrast."

Yesterday Amazon posted on their Kindle forum that they will be addling Kindle widgets that let people provide browser-based previews of Kindle books on the web sites.

Clarkson Potter has released the first of a line of full-color illustrated digital cookbooks, Martha Stewart's Everyday Food: Fresh Flavor Fast, 250 Easy, Delicious Recipes for Any Time of Day. They say "the beautiful photographs are optimized for full-color e-readers, however images will also appear on black-and-white devices." It has a digital list price of $24.99.

Earlier this week Kobo launched a new version of their iPhone app, "built specifically" for the newest device and new operating system.
