Carry Me Down by M.J. Hyland awarded the Hawthornden Prize 2007
Presented yesterday at the London Library by Dr Theodore Dalrymple, established in 1919, the Hawthornden Prize is one of the oldest British literary prizes. It is given for the best work of imaginative literature and is worth £10,000.
Previous winners have included Sean O'Casey, Evelyn Waugh, Graham Greene, Alan Bennett and Hilary Mantel.
Carry Me Down was also shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize.Here is the author's Wikipedia website.
